That’s how I roll
Other than a few exceptions, I travel alone. I’ve gone on a few short overnight trips with a buddy and have gone on some day rides with others, but most of the time I prefer to ride alone. Taking things at my own pace is important to me. Even if they are going the same speed, I don’t like to follow others.
There was a time in my life when I found being alone to be distinctly unpleasant. Now I enjoy the solitude — embrace it, in fact. I’m not anti-social, don’t get me wrong. I enjoy the company of friends and can meet new people very easily. But there is something valuable in being able to dwell within yourself and not require the presence of others to be happy. Sometimes being around others can just seem tedious. When you’re by yourself you don’t have to worry about saying or doing the wrong thing, you don’t have to wonder if they’re comfortable or would rather be doing something else. You don’t have to play games or try to read minds.
The only problem with being alone is it’s hard to tell a joke you haven’t already heard.
